Once in a Lifetime Event: Del Frisco’s Grand Opening Party

When Front Row Eats was invited to a private event to celebrate the Grand Opening of Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse in Boston, we quickly accepted. This award winning and critically acclaimed restaurant has various locations in the US. With it finally set to open at Liberty Wharf in Boston, we knew we had to give them a big New England welcome…and more importantly, eat lots of their food!

Del Frisco’s and CM Communications (thanks to Mindy for the cordial invite) literally put together a once in a lifetime event for their Grand Opening! They certainly know how to make a first impression. They had everything from spectacular ice sculptures to stunning ice luges to pour martinis. It turned out to be an unforgettable food experience from start to finish.

To begin, the waiters passed a seemingly, never-ending selection of hors d’oeuvres (no complaints here). It was a difficult and nearly impossible task, especially since all of these bite-size masterpieces were so delicious, but I managed to narrow it down to a few of my favorites. Here are some of the highlights:

Tuna Tartare on crispy wonton

This was the first thing I tasted and it started the night off right. It was simple and straightforward, yet tasted sensational. The finely minced tuna was cool and refreshing and the wonton was the perfect companion.

Steak Tartare on crostini

I have to admit, I was a bit timid to try this. I LOVE steak, but I had never eaten it raw before. Obviously I’ve heard people rave about Steak Tartare, but it reminded me of something Andrew Zimmern would eat on his show. I picked up this “bizarre food” (based on my preconceived notion), put it in my mouth, and to my surprise, it was extraordinary! It was mushier than your typical cooked steak but it was profoundly flavorful. Maybe Andrew Zimmern is onto something!

Del Frisco’s is famous for their supreme quality beef. They definitely lived up to the hype as the steak literally melted in my mouth, better yet; it evaporated in my mouth in a deliciously dissolving taste of heaven. I can only imagine how euphoric it would be to have an entire 12 oz cut to myself!

Deviled Quail Eggs topped with minced Lobster Claw over a Pumpernickel Crostini

Trust me, this is not grandma’s rendition of deviled eggs; it is much more. Del Frisco’s managed to modernize this dish into an exquisitely irresistible appetizer. Lobster Claw on top…who would have thought? Sure, enough, it was amazing!

Mini Crab Cakes with Chipotle Aioli

These crab cakes were a drool-worthy concoction of greatness. One bite was not nearly enough. My only complaint…I would have liked seconds, thirds, or an entrée size. It left me wanting MORE!!!

Little did I know the best was yet to come. Del Frisco’s set up an extravagant raw bar. Being a New England native, seafood holds a very close place in my heart (and stomach). With that said, you can only imagine my excitement as I approached these colossal mounds of seafood.

Now these were some JUMBO shrimp! They were served with a spicy Cocktail sauce or a Cajun Remoulade sauce. My personal favorite was the New Orleans inspired Remoulade sauce. You could taste the hints of horseradish and paprika which was a great accompaniment to the shrimp.

These oysters were addicting. I grabbed some Tabasco sauce and slurped these briny little shellfish down one after another. Some people resent the slimy texture, but not me. You get used to it.

Who doesn’t love crab legs? Really, what more can I say? They are the best of both worlds – sweet and salty. Plus they are delicate, smooth, and have a mild, subtle seafood flavor. Did I mention Del Frisco’s crab legs were super FRESH too?!!

The meal would not be complete without mentioning Del Frisco’s tempting table of truffles and mousses. My favorite was the cheesecake truffle. This decadent dessert, even in its miniature form, was a symphony of sweetness. It is quite possibly the best truffle I have ever tasted.

Trust me, it will not take long before Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse is one of the most popular restaurants in Boston. I expect it to rise right to the top. Del Frisco’s clearly takes pride in using supreme quality, fresh ingredients – and it shows.  I can’t wait to return to indulge on some steak while enjoying the picturesque waterfront view on a warm, intimate summer night. Life doesn’t get much better than that.
