East Meets West at 10 Prime Steak & Sushi

For a small city, Providence ironically has a large selection of steakhouses to choose from. Those located Downtown are all fairly similar, each resembling one another with contemporary decor, black leather booths and plain table cloths. I’m sure you’ve seen it all before. Although this is a classic theme for most steakhouses, it’s also pretty boring…and outdated.

However, one steakhouse in particular, 10 Prime Steak & Sushi, differentiates itself from the rest of the pack by offering a unique kind of ambiance. As soon as you walk through the entrance, all preconceptions and notions are thrown out the window. Surrounded by sleek designs and modern architecture, the restaurant glows with trance-inducing, bluish hues and vibrant colors. 10 Prime proves to be hipper than your average steakhouse too. House Music (even some merengue!) blasts through the speakers in the dining room while patrons congregate at the bar, sipping Mojitos and Martinis made by some of the city’s most popular bartenders.

But people don’t just visit 10 Prime for the drinks. Oh no! Their signature menu offers a heavenly combination of two of our favorite foods: Sushi and Steak…

We were informed by our server that the Crunchy Munchie is their most popular roll…and we completely understand why! Each bite size delight was packed with Fried Coconut Shrimp, tempura Crab, and drizzled with a Honey Truffle Aioli. It definitely lived up to the name and provided some great textural contrast with each and every “crunch”. If you are new to sushi, the Crunchy Munchie is a must-try. It’s an approachable and more delicious alternative than your typical California roll.

The Prime Roll was like the ultimate version of Surf & Turf. Tightly packed inside was Maine Lobster and tempura Asparagus with Beef Carpaccio delicately draped over the top. We enjoyed this roll but felt like something was missing. According to the menu, there was supposed to be a Truffle Chili Oil but we were barely able to taste it. More sauce would have probably brought all the other flavors together. Nonetheless, we felt like this roll was a bargain at the price, especially considering the ingredients!

10 oz. Wagyu Flat Iron, grade 7

We are always anxious to try Wagyu beef whenever we see it on a menu. This rare breed of beef is famous for its marbilization, resulting in more juiciness. The Flat Iron was thinly sliced, super tender, and loaded with deep, rich flavors in every bite. We found it to be a delicious steak for both beginners and steak lovers.

18 0z. Hereford Delmonico

This mammoth cut of steak was tender beyond your wildest imagination. You could literally throw your knife away and use your fork instead. It was much softer in texture than any steak we have ever tasted before. It was bursting with beefy flavor and it turned out to be our favorite steak of the night.

We were also given a variety of 10 Prime’s signature steak sauces to sample: Macadamia Nut Butter, Bearnaise, Mushroom Red Wine, and Brandy Cream Sauce.

Nick’s favorite was the Macadamia Nut Butter, but only in small doses. It had rich, nutty flavor that could be overpowering if used too heavily. By carefully spreading the butter on the steak, this sauce was a real winner.

Chris’ favorite was the Brandy Cream Sauce. It was like a cross between brown gravy (which we suspect is the main ingredient) with a hint of brandy. It was subtle enough where the sauce complemented the steak rather than overpowered it.

Banana Bread Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream

What’s not to like about this dessert? The bread pudding was hot and gooey, drizzled in caramel and topped with an enormous scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream.  This bread pudding was warm, comforting, and perfect for any winter night. Plus, adding ice cream to any dessert always scores points in our book!

Apple Oatmeal Crisp with Cinnamon & Maple Ice Cream

Like the Banana Pudding, the Apple Oatmeal Crisp was also very comforting which seemed to be the theme throughout the dessert menu. The Crisp was another great seasonal dessert and we loved the Cinnamon & Maple Ice Cream. It was not too heavy or overly sweet which was the perfect way to end our meal.

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal at 10 Prime. There’s truly nowhere else in Rhode Island that you can find quality steaks and sushi on the same menu. If you are looking for a steakhouse that steers away from the norm and offers a unique kind of experience, then you should definitely visit 10 Prime Steak & Sushi!
