The Great International Beer Fest 2012

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Hundreds of beer lovers gathered at the Providence Convention Center last weekend to celebrate the Great International Beer Fest. It may have been a smaller showcase than some other events I have attended in the past, but there were still plenty of quality brews to choose from. Harpoon, Samuel Adams, Old Burnside, Berkshire, Brooklyn, and many more of my favorite breweries were giving out samples of their most popular seasonal varieties. Our favorite beer of the night turned out to be Fuller’s London Pride which was sweet, malty, and clean (and I just want to point out that I usually dislike Pale Ales!). A close runner-up was Samuel Adams’ Longshot Derf’s Secret Alt which I found to be pretty complex. I might have to buy their Longshot variety pack to try this one again!

In case you missed it last weekend, below we have uploaded a fun, short video as we “snaked” our way through the crowd. We had a great time at this year’s event and we are definitely looking forward to the Fall event which we heard is even bigger and better!

Until then, CHEERS!!!

Land and Sea

Ok so quick recap. Fly to San Diego. Sleep in a motel. Wake Up. Drive to Vegas and then drive to the Grand Canyon. But before we start, I wanted to quickly talk about Vegas. I managed to not take a single picture in Sin City. Not sure why but I’ve been there before and didn’t want to be “touristy”. I can say Roberto’s Taco Shop on 1220 East Harmon is a must stop if you’re in town. Cheap ass prices and generous portions. We also stopped by Fruition and spent a few minutes talking to Chris Julian, who co-founded this one of a kind clothing boutique. Please check out their shop online as they have a selection like no other.

Looking back, I kinda wish I took pictures in Vegas. LOL. Ok onto the Grand Canyon…

Best of the Best at Mill’s Tavern

I am excited to announce that one of my favorite restaurants, Mill’s Tavern, has recently unveiled a new Spring Anniversary menu! Mill’s Tavern is honoring its 10-year milestone by offering a signature menu full of their favorite dishes from the last decade. I have tasted some amazing dishes at Mill’s throughout the years, so I was anxious to find out what they considered the best of the best.

For our first course, we were served a Beef Tartare over Bulgar Wheat Salad and Cornichon Emulsion with a Sunny Side Up Quail Egg (shown in the main picture above). Chef Edward Bolus informed us that this is a dish that he used to make as a child with his mother and grandmother. My main question is…who makes beef tartare as a child? I used to make ice cream soup and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Probably explains why he turned out to be such a talented chef and I did not. :)

Meet Me at Nick’s on Broadway!!!

So we’ve been running Front Row Eats for a little over a year now and we have to admit…it’s an absolute disgrace it has taken us this long to write about Nick’s on Broadway. I can’t tell you how many times people have asked me, “have you ever been to brunch at Nick’s?” It’s one of those places that everyone knows about. In fact, I bet if you asked ten different people what they think the best restaurant in Rhode Island is, at least half of them would say Nick’s on Broadway.

What makes Nick’s so special you ask? The answer is…the quality. All of their ingredients are locally and carefully sourced.  For example, all of the eggs are hand-picked from Baffoni Farms in Johnston. You can literally taste the difference. And if you can’t…go back to Denny’s.

The Prelude

Rhode Island to San Diego. And from there, who knows? Despite countless hours etching the perfect road trip on sheets of college ruled, we all agreed it would be more of an adventure if we sorta “winged it”.

Our goal was simple. 3 States. 2,500 miles. 6 days. Sounds insane, and truthfully it was. But this moment along with many sprinkled throughout our trip, provided us with enough adrenaline to whiz by conventional thinking. There’s a reason they call it the open road…right?

Fat Belly’s…Where Everyday is like St. Patrick’s Day

I can’t seem to get enough of Fat Belly’s lately…and apparently I’m not the only one. Even with 6 different locations throughout Rhode Island, this popular pub is consistently packed. Thirsty for a pint of Guinness? Hungry for some quality pub grub? Not looking to spend a boatload of cash? Well, that probably explains why so many people, including myself, love Fat Belly’s.

Just about every item on the menu is priced under $10, making this pub one of the best cheap eats in town. And the best part…the food is delicious too! Feast your eyes on the Big Belly Burger above. Weighing in at a whopping 1/2 lb, this tasty sandwich of meat and cheese will not disappoint. Accompanied by truffle fries which are sprinkled with Parmesan cheese (by request instead of traditional fries), it’s one of my favorite items to order.  You can never go wrong with it…trust me!
